More Prom crash prevention advice

Posted by lapearce on June 1, 2009

I  stumbled upon this great column from Peggy Schmidt of The Partnership TMA of Montgomery County on The Reporter web page. It gives advice to parents to help them cope with new drivers during the dangerous Prom driving season. It offers good advice for both teens and parents, including making sure passengers have their seat belts on, and telling parents to discuss important driving matters with their teens.

I have one thing to add to the advice: know who your child is riding with. There is typically at least one passenger on Prom night, and many times, crashes include cars filled with teens (like the one this weekend with Jennifer Perla). Make sure you trust their friend’s driving abilities before you allow your child to ride with them. Have they received any tickets? Have they crashed cars in the past? What is their general driving reputation?
